I think the public sphere has been hijacked by the profit motive. Those who control the media etc. don't see honest debate as being profitable.

Can you comment on the value/role of discourse within the context of religious discourse?

I think it's also important for people to do more work trying to understand and learn about other cultures rather than just comparing different cultures. Just because Western nations tend to be more industrialized and rich does not necessarily mean that these countries have a better way of life. In fact, most of the pollution that is contributing to climate change comes from these industrialized rich countries. The idea that people should be working 9 to 5 jobs and always focusing on moving forward and improvement is a new one in the span of human history. Some societies are still based in the idea of repetition and there's nothing wrong with that. Many times, these people live in non-industrialized countries are happier and more connected to nature and the world around them.

I am working on a group project for a class about the Rwandan Genocide. What do think would be helpful things to highlight/important to bring up for the presentation if you don't mind answering?
